CJ Koome Has Appointed 3 Judges to Handle Petitions Challenging the Ouster of DP Gachagua

On Monday 14th October, Chief Justice Martha Koome has formed a three-judge bench to hear petitions challenging DP Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment, led by justices Eric Ogola, Anthony Mrima and Frida Mugambi.

This comes after Gachagua filed five petitions to stop the impeachment motion. Deputy President Gachagua, led by a legal team Senior Council Paul Muite is challenging the impeachment on grounds of public participation and Parliament's failure to meet required standards.

At the High Court, Koome followed the orders issued by Justice Lawrence Mugambi. ''Following the orders issued by Hon. Mr. Justice L. N. Mugambi on 11th October 2024, I appoint to hear and determine this petition together with petitions 509/2024, E537/2024, E528/2024 and E506/2024.

Justice Eric Ogola (presiding) will lead the bench appointed by Chief Justice.

Parliament is set to be ruled the Court on whether it has compiled with the legal requirements of the impeachment process.
