Will Kericho Governor Mutai Survive the Impeachment Hearing?
📷 CourtesyOn 2nd October 2024, Kericho County Governor Erick Mutai, out of 47 MCAs for a total of 31 voted yes to be removed from office while 16 boycotted. The governor has been charged with gross violation of 2010 constitution over allegedly engaging in indecent sexual acts, misappropriation and misallocation of public funds, abuse of office and gross misconduct.
Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi starts hearing the case from the members which will take a 2-day hearing. However, when the clerk introduced the violations, Mutai pleaded that he is not guilty of such offences.
Lawyer Elias Mutuma said to the House a young lady (witness) who is a victim will testify in Mutai's case. She will be protected by hiding her identification details that will not be exposed to the world. ''Mr. Speaker, you will notice from the presentation and charges read that one of our witnesses is a young lady who will be appearing before the senate to testify on instances of sexual exploitation and molestation to the extent of being forced into anal sex by the governor,'' he said.
Eric Mutai is the second governor to be impeached. The accusations which undermine him will be determined by the Senate tomorrow on Tuesday 15th October whether to remain in the office or not.
